وَمَلَأتَand you filled مِنfrom جِزعَيكَyour two valley-bends عَينَthe eye الرائِدِthe scout
You quenched the thirst of the parched, lifeless earth,
And from your two valley-bends you filled the scout's eye.

And indeed I came to you thirsty, and drank straight from
Virtues sweeter than cool, clear water.

I made ready for your name a dwelling and an abode
In poetry, among rare verses and lines quoted as exemplars.

So it is the fold for every straying thought,
And it is the hobble for every runaway verse.
كَمmany a نِعمَةٍfavor زَيَّنَتَنيyou adorned me بِسُموطِهاwith its necklace-strands

You have adorned me with the strands of many a favor,
Like a necklace around a budding-breasted maiden's neck.

You left it like a wall whose height was raised,
Erected between me and the envier.

So grip my hands firmly in yours, and rescue me
From a stagnant pursuit with turbid watering-places.

Along its paths and ways I have become
Blind, yet my guide is noble.

وَالحَوضُand the trough مُنتَظِرٌawaiting وُرودَarrival at water الوارِدِthe water-seeker
That is the well, its edges freely accessible,
And the trough awaits the water-seeker's arrival.

And the bucket, at its rope's full reach, is full
Of thirst-quenching water, if extended by a single armspan.
