    And one unrivaled in beauty, devoid of love,

    Well versed in the grounds for faultfinding and reproach,

    Fond of suspicion, knowing nothing of fidelity:

    He spends the night at peace and greets the morning at war.

    أَقامَت عَلى قَلبي رَقيباً مِنَ الحُبِّ

    I planted affection for him in my breast;

    It set a watchman of love over my heart.

    So no glance toward anyone but him ever crossed my mind—

    Among people—without his saying, 'You are at fault.'
