And indeed I am ashamed before my certainty to see

any path for my doubt to assail it in anything.

And I have always had knowledge which, when I state it plainly,

is ample: that refinement in you is scant.

And if I was carried away from others to you

by a journey, then I can journey across the earth away from you.

Prudence would not let me stay in an abode of neglect,

nor would a sturdy she-camel descended from Shadqam and Jadil.

After that which leaves no room for further lingering

with you for a noble man, did you say, 'You are ignorant'?

I shall sever the halters of reproach with an utterance

brief, though the toil of thought it entails is long.

And indeed, a man whose hands begrudge another man

a helping hand received from someone else is surely miserly.
