وَمُشَجَّجٍand one wounded بِالمِسكِwith musk فيon وَجَناتِهِhis cheeks
حَسَنِbeautiful in الشَمائِلِdisposition ساحِرِenchanting in الأَلفاظِspeech
And one whose cheeks are scored with musk,
With musk-scented gardens
gracious in manner, enchanting in speech.
Of beautiful appearance, bewitching words
أَبَداًalways تَرىyou see الآثارَthe traces فيon وَجَناتِهِhis cheeks
مِمّاfrom what يُجَرِّحُهاwounds them مِنَof الأَلحاظِthe glances
You always see the traces upon his cheeks
You will always see traces in his gardens
from the glances that wound them.
From what wounds it with glances
وَتَراهُand you see him سائِرَall of دَهرِهِhis lifetime مُتَبَسِّماًsmiling
فَإِذاbut when رَآنيhe sees me مَرَّhe passes by كَالمُغتاظِlike one angered
And you see him smiling all his days,
You see him smiling his whole life
but when he sees me, he passes by as though angered.
But when he sees me he passes like one annoyed
فيin القَلبِthe heart مِنّيof mine وَالجَوانِحِand the ribs وَالحَشاand the inward parts
مِنfrom حُبِّهِlove for him حَرٌّheat كَحَرِّlike the heat of شُواظِa blazing flame
In my heart, my ribs, and my inward parts
In my heart and limbs and thoughts
is heat from loving him, like the heat of a blazing flame.
From his love a heat like the heat of embers
