An estrangement—born of the sin of closeness—
Our meeting was a sin, the beginning of intimacy
from one stolen from the houris of Paradise.
Stolen from the maidens of Paradise

His cheeks have subtleties: if you saw them,
On her cheeks subtleties, that if you could see them
then you would surely ask about them in the realm of meanings.
You would ask about their meanings

بِأَلفاظِ الهَوى يَتَكَلَّمانِ
We kept silent, while our two hearts together
Our silence and our hearts are both
spoke in the words of love.
Speaking with words of passion

نَزَلنا صاغِرينَ عَلى الأَمانِ
And the burning thirst of longing warred against us until
The heat of longing fought us until
we surrendered, humbled, on terms of safe conduct.
We surrendered, begging for peace
