مَلِكٌa king جارَacted unjustly إِذwhen مَلَكhe ruled
لَيسَdoes not يَرثيshow pity لِمَنfor whoever هَلَكperished
A king who was unjust when he ruled,
A king once ruled, never mourning the dead
who has no pity for those who perish.
My dignity lies torn and tattered
هَتَكَتtore سِترَthe veil of سَلوَتيmy solace
كَفُّthe hand of حُبِّيكَlove for you فَاِنهَتَكso it was torn
The veil of my solace was rent
Your love now ends what it began
by the hand of love for you—and it was torn.
Oh king, while your lover weeps in passion
عَبدُهُhis slave فيin الهَوىlove ضَحِكhe laughed
O king who, when tears are shed
You laugh in delight
by his slave in love, laughs:
My sorrow equals your beauty's splendor
ليI have مِنَof الحُزنِsorrow مِثلُthe equivalent of ماwhat
مِنof بَديعِwondrous الجَمالِbeauty لَكyou have
I have as much sorrow
as you have wondrous beauty.
