مِنfrom أَينَwhere ليfor me صَبرٌpatience عَلىwith الهَجرِseparation
لَوif أَنَّthat قَلبِيَmy heart كانَwere مِنof صَخرِstone
Where could I find patience to endure abandonment,
Where could I find patience to endure separation,
even if my heart were made of stone?
even if my heart were made of stone?
وَيلٌwoe لِجِسميto my body مِنfrom دَواعيurgings الهَوىlove
وَيلٌwoe مَعيwith me يَدخُلُenters فيinto القَبرِthe grave
Woe to my body from love’s urgings—
Woe to my body from the urgings of love—
a woe that enters the grave with me.
woe that enters the grave with me.
لَوif كُنتُI were أَرعىwatching النَجمَthe stars تَقوىًout of piety لَقَدsurely
أَدرَكَwould have beheld طَرفيmy gaze لَيلَةَthe Night of القَدرِDecree
Had I watched the stars in devotion, surely
Had I watched the stars out of piety, surely
my eyes would have attained the Night of Decree.
my gaze would have beheld the Night of Decree.
