مَنَحتُكَI gave you وُدّاًlove كانَwas طِفلاًa child فَقَدand indeed نَشاhas grown
وَأَبدَيتَand you showed ليto me جِسماًa body مِنَof الوُدِّlove موحِشاbereft
I gave you a love that was a child and has now grown.
You granted me affection when it was a child, but it has now grown
And you showed me a body bereft of love.
And you have shown me a body of affection that is desolate
أَرىI see ثَمَرَthe fruit الحُسنِkindness الَّذيthat قَدalready غَرَستُهُI planted it
عَلىupon سَقفِthe roof أَعوادِpoles التَجَنّيunjust reproach مُعَرِّشاtrellised
I see the fruit of the kindness I have planted,
I see the fruit of beauty that I had planted
Trellised over a roof of poles of unjust reproach.
On the roof of branches full of fruits
وَليand I have ياO خَلِيَّfree الصَدرِthe breast مِنfrom لَوعَةِburning anguish الهَوىlove
حَشاًa heart لَستُI am not أَدريI know جَمرَةٌan ember هِيَit أَمor حَشاa heart
And I have, O you whose breast is free of love's burning anguish,
And I have in my chest, my friend, from the agony of passion
A heart—I do not know whether it is an ember or a heart.
A burning I know not whether it is embers or burning
فَداوِso cure سَقاماًa sickness مِنهُfrom it فيin الجِسمِthe body فاشِياًspreading
كَماjust as الحُسنُbeauty فيin ساحاتِthe expanses وَجهِكَyour face قَدindeed فَشاhas spread
So cure a sickness arising from it, spreading through the body,
So cure an illness from it spreading in the body
As beauty has spread across the expanses of your face.
As beauty has spread on the plains of your face
فَأُقسِمُso I swear لَوif تَبدوyou appear لِعَينِto the eye مُرَقِّشٍMuraqqish
لَأَذهَلتَyou would surely distract عَنfrom أَسماءَAsma حَقّاًtruly مُرَقِّشاMuraqqish
So I swear: were you to appear before Muraqqish's eye,
And I swear if you appeared to a keen observer’s eye
You would surely make Muraqqish forget Asma.
You would truly dazzle names that are dazzling
