منamong الملاهيthe instruments of amusement وليسand does not ينكرهcondemn it
من الملاهي وليس ينكره
ذوone possessing ورعpiety حينwhen ينكرcondemns اللعباplay
ذو ورع حين ينكر اللعبا
It is among the instruments of amusement, yet is not condemned
by a pious man, even when he condemns play.
يلهوmakes merry بهwith it منwhoever لهاplays وماand has not أقترفcommitted الذthe sins (first part)
يلهو به من لها وما أقترف الذ
نوبsins (remaining part) فيin فعلهhis doing it ولاnor احتقباtaken upon himself
نوب في فعله ولا احتقبا
Whoever plays makes merry with it, and has committed no
sins in doing so, nor taken any upon himself.
يضربis struck وجهthe face الثرىthe earth بهwith it فترىand you see
يضرب وجه الثرى به فترى
كلevery فؤادheart وجداًwith ardor قدalready اضطرباtrembled
كل فؤاد وجداً قد اضطربا
The face of the earth is struck with it, and you see
every heart already trembling with ardor.
إذاwhen تثنىit bends ثنىit bends القلوبthe hearts وقدand has already
إذا تثنى ثنى القلوب وقد
أهدىbestowed اليهاupon them السرورjoy والطرباand rapture
أهدى اليها السرور والطربا
When it bends, it bends hearts, and has
bestowed upon them joy and rapture.
