ولست بنظار إلى جانب الغني

ولست بنظار إلى جانب الغني

إذا كانت العلياء من جانب الفقر

إذا كانت العلياء من جانب الفقر

I am not one to gaze avidly toward the rich man’s side

And I am not one to gaze toward the side of the wealthy,

when lofty honor stands on poverty’s side.

When lofty honor lies on the side of poverty.

وإني لصبار على ما ينوبني

وإني لصبار على ما ينوبني

لأني رأيت اللّه أثنى على الصبر

لأني رأيت اللّه أثنى على الصبر

Indeed, I am exceedingly steadfast through whatever befalls me,

And I am indeed steadfast in bearing whatever befalls me,

for I have seen that God has praised patience.
