ألذ من صحبة القناني

أو اقتراح على قيان

أو اقتراح على قيان

More delightful than the company of bottles,

or making requests of singing slave girls,

لكز فتى من بني لكيز

لكز فتى من بني لكيز

يهدي له أهون الهوان

يهدي له أهون الهوان

is punching a young man of Banū Lukayz,

bestowing on him the mildest humiliation.

أهوى له بازل خدب

أهوى له بازل خدب

يطحن قرنيه بالجران

يطحن قرنيه بالجران

A hulking, full-grown camel lunged at him,

grinding his temples with the underside of its neck.

فنال منه ثؤور قوم

فنال منه ثؤور قوم

باليد طوراً وبلسان

باليد طوراً وبلسان

Then a people's avenger got the better of him,

by hand at times, and by tongue.

وكان يفسو فصار حقاً

وكان يفسو فصار حقاً

يضرط من خوف مضرطان

يضرط من خوف مضرطان

And he used to fart silently; now he truly

farts aloud for fear of Muḍriṭān.
