أَماDo … not? تَرىyou see الغَيْمَthe cloud ياO مَنْone who قَلْبهhis heart قاسيhard
كَأَنَّهُas though it were أَناI مِقْياساًmeasure بِمِقْياسِfor measure
Do you not see the cloud, O you whose heart is hard?
As though it were me, measure for measure:
قَطْرٌrain كَدَمْعيlike my tears وبَرْقٌand lightning مِثْلَlike نارِfire of جَوىًlonging
فيin القَلْبِthe heart مِنّيof me وريحٌand wind مِثْلَlike أَنْفاسيmy breaths
Rain like my tears, and lightning like the fire of longing
In my heart, and wind like my breaths.
