مَنwhoever يَكُmay be مِنof حُبَّيكِlove for you خِلواًfree فَماyet not
مَن يَكُ مِن حُبَّيكِ خِلواً فَما
أَصبَحتُI have become مِنof حُبَّيكِlove for you بِالخِلوِfree
أَصبَحتُ مِن حُبَّيكِ بِالخِلوِ
Whoever may be free of love for you, yet I have not
Who could bear being bereft of your love?
Whoever is free of your love,
Become free of love for you.
Though I publicly deny it, in private I languish without you.
I have not become free of your love.

He says, with the nougat in his palm,
The confectioner says as he claps his hands,
He calls out, with the sweetmeat in his hand:
“Who will buy sweets from the sweet one?”
"Who will buy something sweet from one who is sweet?"
"Who will buy the sweet from the sweet?"

So I said, “Sell me what I desire of it.”
So I told him with a wink that I desired none,
So I said, "Sell me that which I desire,"
Then he hurried past without turning back.
And hurried quickly by, before he could offer me any.
But he passed by in haste, not turning back.
