وَالعيسُ بي وَبِهِم تَمُدُّ بُراها
What a gulf between me and my companions,
Vast is the difference 'twixt me and my friends,
Vast is the difference between me and my companions,
As the pale camels carry me and them, stretching their nose-rings.
And fate's long road before me never ends.
As white camels stretch their strides to bear us on;
يُحصونَthey count أَميالَmiles الطَريقِof the road وَفيand in يَديmy hand

كَم خُطوَةٍ تَحني البَعيرَ خُطاها
They count the miles of the road, while in my hand
They count the miles they've travelled on their way,
They count the miles of the road, while in my hand
Is many a step whose strides make the camel bend.
While I count weary steps from day to day.
Is the measure of steps that bow the camel's back.
