And with stuffing and turbans

And the padded coats and turbans rolled,

And shelter and warming fires,

And with firewood and prayers

And the shelter and the fire that purrs,

وعن الفرشِ والوطا

وعن الفرشِ والوطا

في بيوتٍ بلا كراءِ

في بيوتٍ بلا كراءِ

And with bedding and mattresses

And with carpets and tents

And the bedding and the carpets deep,

In houses free of rent.

In homes without rent

In houses needing no rent to pay.

قدمَ الصيفُ بالولايةِ

قدمَ الصيفُ بالولايةِ

قدّامةَ اللواءِ

قدّامةَ اللواءِ

Summer has arrived with authority,

Summer has come with authority

Summer has come, its vow to keep,

In front of the banner,

Bearing banners ahead

Leading the banner in the fray,

بالمناديل والغِلالةِ

بالمناديل والغِلالةِ

والنعلِ والرداء

والنعلِ والرداء

With kerchiefs and a thin undershirt,

With handkerchiefs and light wraps

With kerchiefs and the sheerest vest,

And sandals and a cloak,

And sandals and gowns

With sandals and the flowing gown,

والطنابيرِ والطبول

والطنابيرِ والطبول

بالرقص والغناء

بالرقص والغناء

And lutes and drums,

And drums and tambourines

With lutes and drums that never rest,

With dancing and singing.

With dancing and singing

With dance and song inside the town.

يدخل الناس في القيامة

يدخل الناس في القيامة

مرداً بلا لحاءِ

مرداً بلا لحاءِ

People enter the Resurrection

People will enter the Day of Judgment

People enter the Resurrection's gate,

Beardless, without beards.

Helpless without even a loincloth

Beardless youths, stripped of their shell.

أنا مالي وللربا

أنا مالي وللربا

ط وللغزو والغزاءِ

ط وللغزو والغزاءِ

What have I to do with frontier duty,

I want nothing to do with usury

What have I to do with the fortress state,

Or warfare and campaigning?

Or raids and loot

Or with the raid and the warrior's yell?

لستُ ممّن يطوفُ في

لستُ ممّن يطوفُ في

عرفاتٍ ولا مناءِ

عرفاتٍ ولا مناءِ

I am not among those who go round in

I am not one who circumambulates

I am not one of those who tread,

Arafat, nor in Mina.

At Arafat or Mina's sand.

أركب المدنَ في الدي

أركب المدنَ في الدي

ار وفي المدنِ والقراءِ

ار وفي المدنِ والقراءِ

I ride through cities in the lands,

I roam cities and villages

I ride the cities where they spread,

And in cities and villages.

And encampments

In every town and village land.

فإذا ما تمنّعوا

فإذا ما تمنّعوا

وعصوا بذل الرشاءِ

وعصوا بذل الرشاءِ

So when they hold back

So if they refuse

And if they hold back and deny,

And rebel, bribes are offered.

And disobey to pay protection fees

And spurn the bribe I would apply.
