قالَ الطَبيبُ وَقَد تَأَمَّلَ سِحنَتي
إِنَّindeed الَّذيthat which أَضناكَhas worn you down فيكَin you لَبادِis surely evident
إِنَّ الَّذي أَضناكَ فيكَ لَبادِ
The physician said, having examined my complexion:
The doctor gazed at my leanness, and said,
The doctor spoke, having studied my mien,
“Indeed, what has worn you down is plainly visible in you.
"What has made you so is within you, and will not abate,
"The cause of your wasting is clearly seen."
وَزَوالِand the disappearance ماwhat بِكَails you لَيسَis not فيهِin it مَرِيَّةٌdoubt
وَزَوالِ ما بِكَ لَيسَ فيهِ مَرِيَّةٌ
إِنif عادَكَvisits you when ill اللَهَبيُّal-Lahabi فيamong العُوّادِthose visiting the sick
إِن عادَكَ اللَهَبيُّ في العُوّادِ
And there is no doubt that what ails you will pass,
There's no doubt that the fires that plague you
"Your cure is certain, beyond any fear,"
If al-Lahabi visits you among those visiting the sick.”
Will return to burn you, again and again."
"If al-Lahabi, among the visitors, draws near."
