Revive my soul for me, O friend,

with an evening draught and a morning one.

And give me drink until you see me

falling headlong as a bolting steed falls.

    Virgin, tawny wine,

planted in the days of Noah.

It banishes sorrow and brings delight

    to the miser's heart.

That wine—may I never be deprived of it by

God—is my solace, my soul's equal.

    The heart inclines toward it

    in love—how deeply it inclines!

My soul has turned toward it

with a love that never strays.
