O you whose eyelashes hold kohl
O you who carries wine within your glance,
and whose cheeks hold pomegranate blossom,
And whose cheeks hold rouge
And upon whose cheeks blooms the pomegranate flower,

What is this shunning? When did I become aware
When will you realize
Why this aversion? When did I first...
of it? May the All-Merciful be your protector.
That the Most Merciful is your neighbor?
...perceive it? May the Merciful be your protector.

As for the heart, within it, ever since
As for my heart, ever since
As for my heart, within it—ever since...
I was made aware of estrangement, a fire burns.
I was alerted to your estrangement, there is a fire
...I awoke to this abandonment—is a fire.

The envious did not relent
The enviers did not stop
The envious ones did not desist until...

Until the pilgrimage pulled me away from you
...the distance kept me far from where you are.
