O you who hunt with your eye,
Oh captor with your glances you hunt
O you who hunts with his eye,
And never turn aside from hunting,
Yet from hunting you do not deviate
And never wavers from the chase,

By God, for love's sake,
By God, in the right of passion
By God, and by the rights of passion,
May you not be hunted, though you hunt.
Be not captured though you capture
Beware lest you be caught while you are hunting.

You take hearts captive with an eye
You enslave hearts with a glance
You take hearts captive with an eye,
Whose glances are witnesses within them.
Their witnesses to it abound
Whose glances bear witness within.
