ياO قابِريmy burier بِدَلالِهwith his coquetry
وَدامِريand my destroyer بِمِطالِهwith his delays
O you who bury me with your coquetry,
O you who changes my night
O you who buries me with his coquetry,
And destroy me with your delays,
Making it short with its length
And destroys me with his delay,
وَياand O مِبَدِّلَchanger of لَيليmy nights
قِصارَهُtheir short ones بِطِوالِهfor their long ones
And O you who change my nights,
I seek refuge in a face
O you who transforms my night,
Replacing their short ones with their long ones,
The full moon in its likeness
Replacing its brevity with endless length,
أَعوذُI seek refuge مِنكَfrom you بِوَجهٍin a face
بَدرُthe full moon الدُجىthe darkness فيin مِثالِهits likeness
I seek refuge from you in a face
Yet it is sweeter from you
I seek refuge from you in a face
Whose likeness the full moon of night bears;
For the beauty of its mole
Whose likeness is the full moon of the dark,
لَكِنَّهُbut it مِنكَthan you أَحلىsweeter
لِحُسنِbecause of the beauty of مَوضِعِthe placement of خالِهits mole
Yet it is sweeter than you,
Alas, have mercy on one fallen
Yet it is sweeter still,
For the lovely placement of its mole.
Under the mantle and its shadows
For the beautiful placement of its mole.
أَلاwould you not رَحِمتَyou pitied صَريعاًone struck down
تَحتَbeneath الرَدىdeath وَظِلالِهand its shadows
Will you not pity one struck down,
One who sees not but the ghosts of
Will you not have mercy on a fallen victim
Beneath death and its shadows,
A bed other than its image
Cast beneath death and its shadows?
مَنone who لاnot يَرىsees مِنfrom وَثيرِsoft الthe

فِراشِbed غَيرَother than خَيالِهhis phantom
Who sees nothing from the soft
Frail as an anklet he is
One who sees nothing of the soft
Bed but his phantom,
Hidden from his blamer
Bedding except its phantom image,
مِثلُlike الخَلالِthe toothpick نَحيلٌthin

Thin as a toothpick,
So one who wished you ill
Emaciated like a splinter,
Unseen by those who reproach him?
Would be in his state
Invisible even to his critics.
فَمَنso whoever بَغىsought لَكَfor you سوءًharm

So whoever seeks harm for you,
So whoever seeks evil for you,
Then may he be in a plight like his.
May he end up in a state just like his.
