ياO نُواسيُّNuwasi تَوَقَّرbe dignified
يا نُواسيُّ تَوَقَّر
وَتَجَمَّلand show composure وَتَصَبَّرand be patient
وَتَجَمَّل وَتَصَبَّر
O Nuwasi, be dignified,
O reprimanding preacher
O Nuwas, compose yourself with dignity,
and show composure, and be patient.
Beautifying, dignifying, and moralizing yourself
Adorn yourself with grace and patience.
ساءَكَhas distressed you الدَهرُtime بِشَيءٍwith something
ساءَكَ الدَهرُ بِشَيءٍ
وَبِماand with what سَرَّكَhas pleased you أَكثَرmore
وَبِما سَرَّكَ أَكثَر
Time has distressed you with something,
Time has treated you poorly in some way
If Time has grieved you with a single blow,
and has pleased you with more.
And with what pleased you, even more
It has surely pleased you with many more.
ياO كَبيرَgreat in الذَنبِsin عَفوُforgiveness الGod (first part)
يا كَبيرَ الذَنبِ عَفوُ ال
لَهِGod (completion) مِنthan ذَنبِكَyour sin أَكبَرgreater
لَهِ مِن ذَنبِكَ أَكبَر
O you whose sin is great, the forgiveness of
O One with great sin, God’s pardon
O you of great sin, the pardon of
God is greater than your sin.
For it is greater than your sin
God is far greater than your sin.
أَكبَرُgreatest الأَشياءِthe things عَنcompared with أَصleast (first part)
أَكبَرُ الأَشياءِ عَن أَص
غَرِleast (completion) عَفوِforgiveness اللَهِGod أَصغَرsmaller
غَرِ عَفوِ اللَهِ أَصغَر
The greatest of things, compared with the least
The greatest thing from the smallest
The greatest of things, beside the least
of God's forgiveness, is smaller.
Is God’s pardoning the smallest
Of God's mercy, is smaller still.
لَيسَthere is not لِلإِنسانِfor a human being إِلّاexcept
لَيسَ لِلإِنسانِ إِلّا
ماwhat قَضىhas decreed اللَهُGod وَقَدَّرand ordained
ما قَضى اللَهُ وَقَدَّر
A human being has nothing but
Humans have only
There is nothing for man except
what God has decreed and ordained.
What God decreed and preordained
What God has decreed and destined.
لَيسَthere is not لِلمَخلوقِfor the created being تَدبيplanning (first part)
لَيسَ لِلمَخلوقِ تَدبي
رٌplanning (completion) بَلِrather اللَهُGod المُدَبِّرthe planner
رٌ بَلِ اللَهُ المُدَبِّر
The created being has no power to plan;
Creatures have no control
The creature holds no power to plan;
rather, God is the planner.
Rather God arranges all affairs
Rather, God is the Supreme Planner.
