O God's trusted one, who is there for generosity,
O faithful servant of Allah, who remains for the dew
O Trustee of God, who remains for the dew of generosity,
For protecting the weak and freeing the captive?
And protection of the weak, and freeing the captive
To safeguard the weak and set the captive free?

دُنياكَyour world وَالدينِand the faith بِدَمعٍwith tears غَزيرabundant
You left us behind, after you were gone, weeping over
You left us after you, weeping over
You have left us behind you, weeping over
Your world and the faith, with abundant tears.
Your worldly life and religion with plentiful tears
Your world and the Faith with copious tears.
ياO وَحشَتاmy desolation! بَعدَكَafter you ماذاwhat بِناupon us
أَحَلَّinflicted مِنof ضَنكٍhardship صُروفَvicissitudes of الدُهورthe ages
Oh, my desolation after you! What has befallen us
O our loneliness after you, what has befallen us
O the desolation after you! What has befallen us
Of hardship through the vicissitudes of time!
Of sorrows brought by the turns of fate
Of narrowing hardship from the vicissitudes of time?
لاno خَيرَgood لِلأَحياءِfor the living فيin عَيشِهِمtheir life
بَعدَكَafter you وَالزُلفىand favor لِأَهلِfor the dwellers in القُبورthe graves
There is no good for the living in their lives
There is no good in the lives of the living
There is no good for the living in their days
After you—and favor belongs to those in the graves.
After you, while nearness is for the people of graves
After you; true favor now belongs to the people of the graves.
