ياO معشرَcompany of اللوامِthe reproachers
يا معشرَ اللوامِ
عذّبتمونيyou (plural) have tormented me ملاماwith blame
عذّبتموني ملاما
O company of reproachers,
O you who blame me,
O company of blamers,
you have tormented me with blame.
You have caused me much grief and sorrow.
You have tormented me with your rebuke.
فليتَso, would that هذيthese الفعthe deeds (split word begins)
فليتَ هذي الفع
الcompletion of the split word 'deeds' الحرامthe forbidden طابتbecame sweet وداماand endured
ال الحرام طابت وداما
Would that these deeds—
If only this deed,
Would that these deeds,
forbidden—were sweet and endured!
Whether forbidden or permitted, would last forevermore!
The forbidden ones, were sweet and lasting.
واللَهِby God ماnot طابَbecame sweet عشقٌpassionate love
واللَهِ ما طابَ عشقٌ
حتىuntil يكونَit is حراماforbidden
حتى يكونَ حراما
By God, no passionate love is sweet
By God, no love is sweet,
By God, love is never delightful
until it is forbidden.
Unless it's forbidden.
Until it becomes forbidden.
ياO مضنunclear; probably 'one who' يقولsays الغوانيthe lovely women
يا مضن يقول الغواني
أحلىsweeter جنيٌplucking fruit والتزاماand embracing
أحلى جنيٌ والتزاما
O you who say that lovely women
The libertine says: the fairest reward
O you who claim that fair maidens
are sweeter to pluck and embrace,
Is a boy in the prime of his youth.
Are the sweetest harvest to pluck and embrace,
خذtake النساءَthe women ودعand leave ليfor me
خذ النساءَ ودع لي
مماfrom among what يلدنَthey (women) bear غلاماa boy
مما يلدنَ غلاما
take the women, and leave me
Take the women and leave for me
Take the women, and leave for me,
a boy from among those they bear.
Whatever they birth, if it's a boy.
From among their offspring, a lad.
شرطيmy condition المراهقُthe youth nearing puberty منهمfrom among them
شرطي المراهقُ منهم
قدalready قاربَhas drawn close to الإحتلاماnocturnal emission (a sign of puberty)
قد قاربَ الإحتلاما
My condition: a youth among them
Especially the youth among them,
My requirement is the adolescent among them,
who has already drawn close to puberty.
Who is nearing puberty.
Who has drawn near to the age of manhood.
