أَبا مُنذِرٍ ما بالُ أَنسابِ مَذحَجٍ

أَبا مُنذِرٍ ما بالُ أَنسابِ مَذحَجٍ

مُرَجَّمَةٌ دوني وَأَنتَ صَديقي

مُرَجَّمَةٌ دوني وَأَنتَ صَديقي

O Abu Mundhir, why are the lineages of Madhhij

Oh Abu Munthir, why do the lineages of Mudhij

O Abu Mundhir, what troubles the lineage of Madhhij,

obscure to me, though you are my friend?

Rank below me, while you're my friend?

That it is cast in doubt without me, while you are my friend?

فَإِن تَأتِني يَأتِك ثَنائي وَمَدحَتي

فَإِن تَأتِني يَأتِك ثَنائي وَمَدحَتي

وَإِن تَأبَ لا يُسدَد عَلَيَّ طَريقي

وَإِن تَأبَ لا يُسدَد عَلَيَّ طَريقي

For if you come to me, my praise and commendation will come to you;

If you come to me, you'll get my praise and flattery.

If you come to me, my praise and eulogy shall greet you,

and if you refuse, my path will not be barred to me.

But if you refuse, my way will not be made smooth for me.

And if you refuse, my road shall not be closed to me.
