يُقَلِّبانِboth toss about الفُؤادَthe heart بِالفِكرِwith thought
يُقَلِّبانِ الفُؤادَ بِالفِكرِ
My prolonged longing and my scant endurance
My yearning is long, and my patience wears thin
The length of my yearning and the limits of my patience
toss my heart about in thought.
Turning my heart over with anxious thoughts within
Toss my heart about in endless thought.
فَالحُبُّfor love ضَيفٌa guest عَلَيَّwith me مُعتَكِفٌabiding
فَالحُبُّ ضَيفٌ عَلَيَّ مُعتَكِفٌ

وَالقَلبُ مِن مِحنَةٍ عَلى خَطَرِ
For love is a guest abiding with me,
Love is my guest, cloistered away in my core
For love is a guest that has taken sanctuary within me,
and the heart is in peril from affliction.
While my heart is in peril, tempting fate evermore
And my heart, from this ordeal, stands on the brink of danger.

وَجهٌ زَها حُسنُهُ عَلى القَمَرِ
Longing is roused from its hiding places
Longing awakes from its slumber deep inside
Awakening longing from its hidden recesses
by a face whose beauty outshone the moon.
A face as fair as the moon in its pride
Is a face whose beauty glories over the moon.
