إِنَّindeed البَرامِكَةَthe Barmakids الَّذينَwho تَعَلَّمواthey learned
إِنَّ البَرامِكَةَ الَّذينَ تَعَلَّموا
فِعلَconduct المُلوكِthe kings فَعَلَّموهُand taught it الناساthe people
فِعلَ المُلوكِ فَعَلَّموهُ الناسا
Indeed, the Barmakids, who learned
Those Barmakids who learned the deeds of kings,
Truly, the Barmakids are those who learned
the conduct of kings and taught it to the people,
And taught the people what they were shown,
The art of kingship, and taught it to mankind.
كانواthey were إِذاwhenever غَرَسواthey planted سَقَواthey watered وَإِذاand whenever بَنَواthey built
كانوا إِذا غَرَسوا سَقَوا وَإِذا بَنَوا
لَمdid not يَهدِمواthey demolish لِبِنائِهِمfor their building آساساfoundations
لَم يَهدِموا لِبِنائِهِم آساسا
would water whenever they planted; and whenever they built,
When planting trees, they watered them,
For when they planted, they watered; and when they built,
they did not demolish their buildings’ foundations.
And when building, tore not down the base.
They never undermined the foundations of their work.
وَإِذاand whenever هُمُthey صَنَعواthey performed الصَنيعَةَa favor فيamong الوَرىhumankind
وَإِذا هُمُ صَنَعوا الصَنيعَةَ في الوَرى
جَعَلواthey made لَهاfor it طولَlength of البَقاءِendurance لِباساa garment
جَعَلوا لَها طولَ البَقاءِ لِباسا
And whenever they bestowed a favor upon humankind,
Their works they made to last eternally,
And when they bestowed a kindness upon the world,
they made long endurance its garment.
Adorning all with robes that would not fade.
They clothed it in the raiment of eternity.
