If I had a companion to gladden me over wine,
If I had a dwelling in the wind that would make me happy
If in the wine I found a solace to delight me,
I would not wait to break my fast before drinking wine.
I would not have waited for the wind's drink to break my fast
I would not wait for breaking fast to drink the draught.

Wine is a wondrous thing—you are its drinker.
The wind is a wondrous thing when you drink it
For wine is truly wondrous when you drink of it,
So drink, even if wine burdens you with sins.
So drink even if the wind weighs you down
So drink, though wine may burden you with heavy sins.

صِر في الجِنانِ وَدَعني أَسكُنُ النارا
O you who reproach me for clear red wine,
O you who blame the clear red wine
O you who blame me for the vintage, red and pure,
Be in the gardens of Paradise, and leave me to dwell in the Fire.
Live in paradise and leave me to inhabit the fire
Go dwell in Paradise, and leave the Fire to me.
