قَنِعتُI was content إِذwhen نِلتُI gained مِنfrom أَحبابِيَmy beloveds النَظَراthe glance
وَقُلتُand I said ياO رَبِّmy Lord ماnot أَعطَيتَYou gave ذاthis بَشَراto a mortal
I was content when I won a glance from my beloveds.
I was content when I received the gaze of my loved ones,
I was content when I attained a glance from my beloved,
And I said, 'O my Lord, You have given this to no mortal!'
And I said: Oh Lord, You have not given this to any mortal.
And cried, "O Lord, You have not granted this to mortal man!"
لَمdid not يَبقَremain مِنّيof me مِنfrom قَرنيthe crown of my head إِلىto قَدَميmy foot
شَيءٌanything سِوىexcept القَلبِthe heart إِلّاbut هَنَّأَcongratulated البَصَراthe sight
No part of me, from the crown of my head to my foot,
Nothing remains of me from head to toe,
No part of me remained, from my crown down to my feet,
save my heart, failed to congratulate my eyes.
Except my heart, that my eyes have gladdened.
But that it blessed my eyes for what they saw—save for my heart.
ياO وَيحَpity for مَنone who لاnot يُباليheeds عَينَthe eye مُبصِرِهِone who beholds him
لاnot تَرىyou see مَعَهُwith him شَمساًa sun وَلاand not قَمَراa moon
Alas for him who pays no heed to his beholder's eye:
Oh woe to him who does not care for the eye of the seer!
Alas for him who pays no heed to the eye that beholds him,
You see neither sun nor moon beside him.
He will not see with it sun or moon.
Beside whom you perceive neither the sun nor the moon.
