شَهِدتُ البِطاقِيَّ في مَجلِسٍ

شَهِدتُ البِطاقِيَّ في مَجلِسٍ

وَكانَ إِلَيَّ بَغيضاً مَقيتا

وَكانَ إِلَيَّ بَغيضاً مَقيتا

I saw al-Bitaqi at a gathering,

I saw Bitaqiyya in a gathering

I witnessed Al-Bitaqi in the assembly hall,

And he was hateful and loathsome to me.

Though he was loathsome and hateful to me

To me he was loathsome, most hateful of all.

فَقالَ اِقتَرِح بَعضَ ما تَشتَهي

فَقالَ اِقتَرِح بَعضَ ما تَشتَهي

فَقُلتُ اِقتَرَحتُ عَلَيكَ السُكوتا

فَقُلتُ اِقتَرَحتُ عَلَيكَ السُكوتا

So he said, "Ask for something you desire."

He said: "Suggest something you desire"

He said, "Propose a wish that you might seek,"

So I said, "My request of you is silence."

I said: "I suggest that you be silent"

I said, "I propose that you cease to speak."
