I desire both cupbearers, but my heart

is madly in love with the younger of the two.

Not the one wearing the shirt, but

the one in the coat, with scorpion-like curls at his temples,

whom God has adorned with beauty

and a lovely brow and eyebrows.

He dallies when urged to drink,

in quiet repose, and strokes both cheeks.

They made him a Khurasani, though he knew not what Khurasan was,

by dressing him in a coat and two waistcloths.

They treat him unjustly in jest,

while he, in his justice, resembles the two Umars.
