أَنعَتُI describe كَلباًa dog أَهلُهُhis household مِنfrom كَدِّهِhis toil
قَدindeed سَعِدَتhave prospered جُدودُهُمtheir fortunes بِجَدِّهِthrough his diligence
I describe a dog whose household lives by his toil.
They eulogized a dog, whose family became distinguished through his perseverance,
I describe a hound whose family subsists on his toil,
Their fortunes have prospered through his diligence.
And all the good they possessed was through him.
Their fortunes prospering through his earnest striving,
وَكُلُّand every خَيرٍgood thing عِندَهُمwith them مِنfrom عِندِهِwith him
يَظَلُّhe spends the day مَولاهُhis master لَهُto him كَعَبدِهِlike his slave
And every good thing they have comes from him.
His master would treat him like a servant,
And every bounty they possess flows from his gift,
His master spends the day like a slave to him.
Sleeping closest to his bed.
His master waits upon him as though his slave,
يَبيتُhe spends the night أَدنىnearest صاحِبٍcompanion مِنfrom مَهدِهِhis bed
وَإِنand if عَريhe is uncovered جَلَّلَهُhe covers him بِبُردِهِwith his cloak
He spends the night as the companion nearest the dog's bed.
When bare, he would cover him with his cloak,
He spends the night the nearest companion to his bed,
And if the dog is uncovered, his master wraps him in his cloak.
With a black muzzle and tail tuft.
And if he shivers, he covers him with his own cloak,
ذاbearing غُرَّةٍa white blaze مُحَجَّلاًwhite-marked بِزَندِهِon his foreleg

With a white blaze and a white-marked foreleg,
The eye delights in his beauty and length of cheek,
Marked with a white blaze, and white upon his foreleg,
The eye delights in the beauty of his build:
And the delay of his lips and length of his jaw.
The eye finds sweet delight in the beauty of his form,
تَأخيرُthe rearward setting of شِدقَيهِhis mouth's two corners وَطولَand the length of خَدِّهِhis cheek

His mouth's corners set far back, and his long cheek.
The gazelles meet misery from his chasing,
The deep-set jaw and the length of his smooth cheek,
The gazelles suffer hardship from his pursuit.
He drinks the cup of difficulty through his resolve.
The gazelles encounter ruin in his relentless chase,
يَشرَبُhe drinks كَأسَthe cup of شَدَّهاtheir sprinting بِشَدِّهِwith his sprinting

He drinks the cup of their sprinting with his own.
Hunting them twenty in his lair,
He drains the cup of their speed with his own swift stride,
He catches twenty of them in his swift run.
What a remarkable dog of unique make!
Hunting a score of them in a single gallop,
ياO لَكَfor you مِنof كَلبٍa dog نَسيجِa weave وَحدِهِall his own
ياO لَكَfor you مِنof كَلبٍa dog نَسيجِa weave وَحدِهِall his own
Oh, what a dog you are—one of a kind!
What a remarkable dog of unique make!
Oh, what a dog! Truly peerless in his mold,
Oh, what a dog you are—one of a kind!
Oh, what a dog! Truly peerless in his mold.
