رَفَعَhe raised الصَوتَthe voice فَنادىthen he called out
رَفَعَ الصَوتَ فَنادى
ياO أَباAbu (father of) عيسىIsa الجَواداthe generous one
يا أَبا عيسى الجَوادا
He raised his voice and called out:

Be a support, O son of one who was
Be a pillar, O son of one who was
Be a support, O son of him who was
a source of aid and a support.
a refuge and pillar.
A succor and a firm pillar;
وَتَدارَكand rescue جَسَداًa body قَدhas (perfective marker)
وَتَدارَك جَسَداً قَد
ماتَdied أَوor قَدhas (perfective marker) قيلَit was said كاداnearly died
ماتَ أَو قَد قيلَ كادا
And rescue a body that has

died—or, they say, nearly did.

قُلsay لَهُto him إِنif قالَhe says هَلquestion marker تاrepented (first fragment)
قُل لَهُ إِن قالَ هَل تا

بَ نَعَم تابَ وَزادا
Tell him, if he asks, 'Has he repented?'
Say to him, if he says: 'Have you repented?'
Say to him, if he asks: "Has he re—"
'Yes, he has repented, and more.'
'Yes, I have repented and increased.'

وَاِضمَنِand vouch for التَوبَةَthe repentance عَمَّنon behalf of one who
وَاِضمَنِ التَوبَةَ عَمَّن
كُلَّماwhenever أَطراكَhe praised you عاداhe relapsed
كُلَّما أَطراكَ عادا
And vouch for the repentance of one
And include in repentance whoever
And vouch for the repentance of one who,
who, whenever he praises you, relapses.
whenever they relapse, returns."
