Hasten to your morning wine and enjoy yourself, O man!
Seize your morn, rejoice my friend, and shun
Hasten to your morning draught and revel in delight, O man,
And defy those who ignorantly reproached you for love.
Those who in passion have transgressed and sinned.
And disobey those who, in ignorance, rebuke you for your passion.
وَاِخلَعand cast off عِذارَكَyour bridle أَضحِكmake laugh كُلَّevery ذيpossessor of طَرَبٍrapture

And cast off your bridle; make every joyous soul laugh.
Cast off your censure, make each troubled soul smile,
Cast off your restraint and bring laughter to every mirthful soul,
And turn with them wherever they turn.
Meet them with grace, wherever they have strayed.
And incline yourself among them, turning wherever they turn.

He has attained joy and an easy life in repose,
Good cheer and plain living the wry joke has won,
He attains true joy and the ease of a life in comfort,
And won good things—the shameless, jesting libertine.
And wholesome pleasures the lighthearted gained.
And wins the choicest pleasures—the libertine, the jester.
سُقياًa blessing of rain لِمَجلِسِupon the gathering of فِتيانٍyoung men أُنادِمُهُمI drink with them
ماno فيin أَديمِهِمُtheir hide وَهيٌweakness وَلاand no خَلَلُflaw
May rain bless the gathering of young men with whom I drink!
At hand to pour the wine for bright young friends,
A blessing on a circle of youths with whom I share the cup,
Their hide has neither weakness nor flaw.
No flaw or fault in them, their circle unbroken.
In whose character there lies no weakness and no flaw.
هَذاthis one لِذاكَfor that one كَماjust as هَذاthis one وَذاكَand that one لِذاfor this one
فَالشَملُso the company مُنتَظِمٌis united وَالحَبلُand the cord مُتَّصِلُis unbroken
This one is for that one, as this one and that one are for this one.
This one for that, as that one is for this,
This one is for that one, just as that one is for this,
So their company is knit together, and their cord unbroken.
Their band connected, their rope tightly braided.
Thus the gathering is whole, and the bond is tightly joined.
أَكرِمhow splendid بِهِمthey are وَبِنَغمٍand Nagham مِنas a مُغَنِّيَةٍsongstress
فَفيfor in الغِناءِsinging بِنَغمٍNagham يُضرَبُis cited المَثَلُthe example
How splendid they are—and Nagham, what a songstress!
Show them honor, and with a songstress' voice
How noble they are, accompanied by a songstress’s melody,
For in singing, Nagham is held up as a model.
Let song set the standard, the pattern for all.
For in her song and tune, the proverb of beauty is struck.
هَيفاءُa slender-waisted beauty تُسمِعُناshe makes us hear وَالعودُand the oud يُطرِبُناenraptures us
وَدِّعbid farewell to هُرَيرَةَHurayrah إِنَّindeed الرَكبَthe caravan مُرتَحِلُdeparting
A slender-waisted beauty sings to us, and the oud enraptures us:
Hayfa's song fills our ears, the lute makes us drunk,
A slender beauty sings to us, while the lute enchants us,
"Bid Hurayrah farewell, for the caravan is departing."
Farewell to worry, the caravan's moving on.
Chanting: "Bid Hurayrah farewell, for the caravan departs."
