Give us a drink—for our day is Rām's day,

And Rām surpasses the other days—

Of wine more delightful than the gaze

Of the beloved into a lover's face, with a smile.

Not coarse wine from which one's nature recoils,

As hearing recoils from offensive speech.

A daughter of ten years, grown clear and fine—were she

Poured upon the night, all darkness would vanish.

In spring gardens, where the rain came early

    Upon them with pouring clouds,

So they were embroidered with every graceful blossom,

    Growing singly and in pairs.

So you see the drinkers there like crescent moons,

    Sipping Khusraw's royal wine.

And from its yield they have marigolds,

Which they have set where pens are placed.
