وَلّىhas passed الصِيامُfasting وَجاءَand came الفِطرُthe feast of fast-breaking بِالفَرَحِwith joy
وَأَبدَتِand revealed الكَأسُthe cup أَلواناًhues; varieties مِنَof المُلَحِdelights
Fasting has passed, and the feast has come with joy.
The fasting has passed and Eid has arrived with joy,
Fasting has turned away, and the Feast has arrived with joy,
And the cup has revealed many hues of delight.
And the cup has revealed colors of salt.
And the cup has revealed its various hues of pleasantries,
وَزارَكَand visited you اللَهوُrevelry فيat إِبّانِthe height دَولَتِهِof its reign
مُجَدَّدَrenewed اللَهوِrevelry بَينَbetween العودِthe lute وَالقَدَحِand the goblet
And revelry has visited you at the height of its reign,
Revelry has visited you during its reign,
And Revelry has visited you at the very height of its reign,
With revelry renewed between the lute and the goblet.
Renewing revelry between lute and cup.
Renewing pleasure betwixt the lute and the wine-cup,
فَلَيسَso nothing يُسمَعُis heard إِلّاexcept صَوتُthe voice غانِيَةٍof a beautiful singer
مَجهودَةٍexhausted جَدَّدَتshe renewed صَوتاًa tune لِمُقتَرَحِfor a request
So nothing is heard but the voice of a beautiful singer,
Only the voice of a skilled singer can be heard,
So nothing is heard but the voice of a songstress,
Exhausted, she sang a tune anew at a request.
Renewing a voice for the entertainment.
Exerting her art to render a fresh melody upon request,
وَالخَمرُand wine قَدhas بَرَزَتappeared فيin ثَوبِthe robe زينَتِهاof its finery
فَالناسُso the people ماranging بَينَbetween مَخمورٍan intoxicated person وَمُصطَبِحِand a morning drinker
And wine has appeared in the robe of its finery,
And wine has appeared in its dress of adornment,
And the wine has stepped forth in the robes of its adornment,
So people are either intoxicated or taking their morning draught.
So people are between drunk and sober.
Leaving the people drifting between intoxication and the morning draught.
