يا فَرحَةً جاءَت مَعَ العيدِ

وَفى الَّذي أَهوى بِمَوعودِ

Oh joy that came along with the festival,

For the one I love has kept his promise.

جاءَ مِنَ الأَعيُنِ مُستَخفِياً

مِن بَعدِ إِخلافٍ وَتَنكيدِ

He came to me, hiding from prying eyes,

After long breach of faith and vexation.

حَتّى إِذا الراحُ جَرَت بَينَنا

أَمِنتُ مِن خُلفٍ وَتَرديدِ

Until, when the wine flowed between us,

I felt safe from betrayal and uncertainty.

ظَلَّ وَلِيُّ العَهدِ في خُطبَةٍ

وَظِلتُ بَينَ الراحِ وَالعودِ

The Crown Prince remained occupied with the sermon,

While I remained between the wine and the lute.

صارَ مُصَلّانا أَباريقَنا

وَنَحرُنا بِنتَ العَناقيدِ

Our place of prayer became our pouring vessels,

And our sacrifice was the daughter of the grape clusters.

لِلناسِ عيدٌ عَمَّهُم واحِدٌ

وَصارَ لي عيدانِ في عيدِ

The people have one feast that encompasses them all,

While I have gained two feasts within a single one.
