Do not turn aside to the faded ruins;
Do not pass by the ruins of the abodes
Do not linger beside the effaced ruins,
And pour her for me, in her delicate robe.
And give me to drink the delicate wine
But pour me the wine in a gossamer gown.
ماتَdied أَربابُهاher masters وَبادَتand perished قُراهاher villages
وَبَراهاand whittled her الزَمانُtime بَريَthe whittling of الخِلالِthe toothpick
Her masters have died, and her villages have perished;
Their masters have died and their villages are lost
Her masters have perished, her villages vanished,
And time has whittled her as one whittles a toothpick.
And time has clad them in the garb of separation
And time has whittled her thin as a pin.
فَهيَso she is بِكرٌa virgin كَأَنَّهاas though she were كُلُّevery شَيءٍthing
حَسَنٍbeautiful طَيِّبٍpleasant لَذيذٍdelicious زُلالِpure and clear
So she is a virgin, as though she were everything
So it is a virgin as if it were everything
A virgin is she, appearing to be
Beautiful, pleasant, delicious, and pure.
Good, pleasant, delicious, shady
All things beautiful, savory, luscious, and pure.

She was aged in wine jars until she acquired
Freed in the vats until it gained
She aged in the casks until she drew forth
The light of the midmorning sun and the coolness of shade.
The light of the morning sun and the coolness of shade
The light of the morning, the cool of the shade.
وَلِعَمرُand by the life of المُدامِwine إِنif قُلتَyou speak فيهاof her
إِنَّindeed فيهاin her لَمَوضِعاًsurely room لِلمَقالِfor speech
And by the life of wine, if you speak of her,
And by the life of wine, if you said about it
By the life of the wine, if you speak of her nature,
There is indeed much to be said of her.
That in it is a place for speech
You truly will find a vast ground for your speech.
