دَبَّcrept فِيَّwithin me الفَناءِdeath سُفلاًbelow وَعُلواand above

وَأَراني أَموتُ عُضواً فَعُضوا
Death has crept through me, below and above,
Decay spread in me, below and above,
Decay has crept through me, from the depths to the heights,
and I see myself dying, limb by limb.
And I saw myself dying, limb by limb.
And I see myself perishing, limb by limb.

نَقَصَتني بِمَرِّها بِيَ جُزوا
No hour has passed for me but
There is no hour that has passed me by,
No hour has passed over me,
it has diminished me by a part as it passed me by.
Except that it diminished me, in its bitterness, some part.
Save that it eroded a portion of me in its flight.

وَتَذَكَّرتُ طاعَةَ اللَهِ نِضوا
My vigor was spent obeying my own self,
My strength passed in obeying my soul,
My vigor has vanished in obedience to my desires,
and, worn out, I remembered obedience to God.
And I remembered obeying God, in earnest.
And I remembered obedience to God only when worn and thin.

Alas for my soul over nights and
My soul yearned for nights and days,
Alas for my soul, for the nights and the days,
days I savored in play and diversion!
Which I wasted in play and vanity.
That I squandered in play and idle amusement.

We have indeed done wrong in every way; so, O
We have done the worst evil, so God,
We have sinned with every measure of wrong, so O God,
God, grant us clemency, forgiveness, and pardon.
Forgive us, pardon us, and excuse us.
Grant us pardon, forgiveness, and grace.
