مَلَكتَyou came to rule عَلىupon طَيرِthe bird of السَعادَةِhappiness وَاليُمنِand good fortune
وَحُزتَand you won إِلَيكَfor yourself المُلكَsovereignty مُقتَبَلَin the early stage of السِنِّlife
You came to rule borne by the bird of happiness and good fortune,
You have taken rule amidst the omens of felicity and good fortune,
And won sovereignty for yourself while still young.
And gathered the kingdom to yourself in the prime of your youth.
لَقَدindeed طابَتِgrew sweet الدُنياthe world بِطيبِthrough the sweetness of مُحَمَّدٍMuhammad
وَزيدَتand were increased بِهِthrough him الأَيّامُthe days حُسناًin beauty إِلىto حُسنِbeauty
Indeed, the world grew sweet through Muhammad's sweetness,
The world has become sweet through the sweetness of Muhammad,
And through him the days gained beauty upon beauty.
And through him, the days have increased in beauty upon beauty.
وَلَولاand were it not for الأَمينُal-Amin بنُson of الرَشيدِal-Rashid لَماwould not have انقَضَتcome to an end
رَحىthe millstone of الدينِfaith وَالدُنياand worldly life تَدورُturning عَلىupon حُزنِsorrow
And without al-Amin, son of al-Rashid, there would have been no end
Were it not for Al-Amin, son of Al-Rashid, never would have ceased
to the millstone of faith and worldly life turning upon sorrow.
The millstone of faith and the world turning upon sorrow.
لَقَدindeed فَكَّbroke أَغلالَthe shackles of العَناءِsuffering مُحَمَّدٌMuhammad
وَأَنزَلَand he lodged أَهلَthe people of الخَوفِfear فيin كَنَفِthe shelter of الأَمنِsafety
Indeed, Muhammad has broken the shackles of suffering,
Muhammad has shattered the heavy shackles of hardship,
And lodged the fearful in the shelter of safety.
And settled the fearful within the sanctuary of security.
إِذاwhenever نَحنُwe أَثنَيناpraise عَلَيكَyou بِصالِحٍfor a good quality
فَأَنتَthen you are كَماjust as نُثنيwe praise وَفَوقَand beyond الَّذيwhat نُثنيwe praise
Whenever we praise you for a virtue,
Whenever we extol you with righteous praise,
You are as we praise you, and beyond our praise.
You are as we praise, and far beyond all that we praise.
وَإِنand if جَرَتِflow الأَلفاظُthe words مِنّاfrom us بِمِدحَةٍin praise
لِغَيرِكَfor someone other than you إِنساناًa person فَأَنتَthen you are الَّذيthe one whom نَعنيwe mean
And if our words flow in praise
And if words of eulogy flow from us,
of someone other than you, you are the one we mean.
Directed at another, it is truly you whom we mean.
