مُقتَحِماً لِلماءِ قَد لَجَّجا
The full moon of the dark night has boarded the Dolphin,
The full moon of the dark night has boarded the Dolphin,
Braving the water, he has sailed into its depths.
Plunging into the waters, braving the deep currents,
فَأَشرَقَتso shone دِجلَةُthe Tigris مِنfrom نورِهِhis light
فَأَشرَقَت دِجلَةُ مِن نورِهِ

وَأَسفَرَ الشَطّانِ وَاستَبهَجا
So the Tigris shone with his light,
So the Tigris shone brilliantly from his light,
And both banks grew radiant and rejoiced.
And both riverbanks dawned bright and resplendent.

أَحسَنَ إِن سارَ وَإِن عَرَّجا
My eye has never seen a vessel like it,
My eye has never beheld a vessel like it,
So beautiful, whether sailing on or turning aside.
Most magnificent whether sailing straight or turning aside.

When its oars spur it on,
When its oars urge it to hasten,
It canters over the water or ambles smoothly.
It gallops across the water or ambles with grace.

God bestowed it specially on al-Amin, who
God has exclusively favored Al-Amin with it—he who
Has now been crowned with the crown of kingship.
Has risen, crowned with the diadem of sovereignty.
