ماthere is not مِنany يَدٍhand فيamong الناسِthe people واحِدَةٍsingle
كَيَدٍlike a hand أَبوAbu العَبّاسِal-Abbas مَولاهاits master
There is not a single hand among people
There is no hand among the people, not a single one,
Like the hand whose master is Abu al-Abbas.
Like the hand of which Abu al-Abbas is the master.
نامَslept الثُقاتُthe trusted men عَلىupon مَضاجِعِهِمtheir beds
وَسَرىand he traveled by night إِلىto نَفسيmy soul فَأَحياهاand so revived it
The trusted men slept upon their beds,
The trusted guards slept soundly upon their beds,
And he came by night to my soul and revived it.
But he journeyed by night to my soul and revived it.
قَدindeed كُنتُI had been خِفتُكَI feared you ثُمَّthen أَمَّنَنيmade me safe
مِنfrom أَنthat أَخافَكَI fear you خَوفُكَyour fear اللَهُGod
I had indeed feared you; then I was made safe
I had feared you once, but then I was granted safety
From fearing you, by your fear of God.
From fearing you, by your own fear of God.
فَعَفَوتُso I pardoned عَنّيmyself عَفوَthe pardon of مُقتَدِرٍone with power
حَلَّتwere lawful لَهُfor him نِقَمٌreprisals فَأَلغاهاthen he waived them
So I pardoned myself as one with power pardons,
For you pardoned me with the pardon of a powerful one,
For whom reprisals were lawful, yet he waived them.
To whom vengeance was lawful, yet he cast it aside.
