عاذلي لوماً أطِعني

وأقِلَّ الآن لومي

You who reproach me, heed me,

O blamer, heed my counsel regarding your reproach,

and now reproach me less.

And lessen now your censure of me.

واشربِ الراحَ ودعني

من صلاتي كلّ يوم

من صلاتي كلّ يوم

And drink wine, and spare me

Drink the wine and leave me be,

my prayer each day.

Far from my prayers of every day.

وإذا ما حانَ وقتٌ

وإذا ما حانَ وقتٌ

لصلاةٍ أو لصومِ

لصلاةٍ أو لصومِ

And when the time comes

And whenever a time arrives

for prayer or for fasting,

For prayer or for fasting,

فارفع الصومَ بشُربٍ

فارفع الصومَ بشُربٍ

وامزُج الخمرَ بنَوم

وامزُج الخمرَ بنَوم

then break the fast by drinking,

Then dismiss the fast with a drink,

and mix wine with sleep.

And mingle the wine with slumber.

أبداً ما عشتَ خالِف

دأبَ قومٍ بعد قومِ

Always, as long as you live, defy

Forever, as long as you live, defy

the custom of one people after another.
