وَبِرَغمي كانَ ذا لا بِالرِضا
O ailing one, you have made my heart sicker.
O ailing one, who has added to the sickness of my heart,
This was against my will, not with my consent.
This came to pass against my will, and never by my choice.

May the All-Merciful turn harm away from you for my sake.
May the Merciful deflect all harm away from you,
And may my own soul bear the fetter of fate’s worst ills.
And may my soul be the ransom against the worst of fate.

What does Time want of me—woe to it!
What does Time want with me—woe unto it!
No sooner did I trust Time than it stood in my way.
I never trusted Time, until it rose to block my way.
