عُلِّقتُI am enamored of مَنthe one who عُلِّقَنيis enamored of me
فَكُلُّناso both of us مُتَّفِقُin agreement
I am enamored of one who is enamored of me;
I hung who hung me
I am attached to one attached to me,
so we are both of one accord.
We're all in agreement
And thus, in all things, we agree.
إِنif غابَhe is absent لَمnot أَظنُنI suspect ill بِهِof him
وَهوَand he بِغَيبيin my absence يَثِقُtrusts
If he is absent, I think no ill of him,
If he's absent, I don't doubt him
If he is absent, I harbor no doubt of him,
and he trusts me in my absence.
He trusts me when I'm away
And he, in my absence, places his trust.
لَوif شِئتُI wished أَنthat يُلثِمَنيhe let me kiss
فاهُhis mouth وَحَوليand around me حِلَقُcircles of people
If I wished him to let me kiss
If I wanted him to kiss me
If I desired that he should press his mouth
his mouth, with circles of people around me,
His mouth and my neck bare
To mine, though crowds stood round in rings,
لَقامَhe would rise لاnot يَمنَعُهُstop him
مِمّاfrom what أَشاءُI desire الحَدَقُthe eyes
he would rise; he would not be stopped
He would stand, nothing preventing
He would rise up, and nothing could deter him
from what I desire by watching eyes.
Me getting what I want
From what I wish—not even staring eyes.
