O you who let tears flow at the ruins,
O you who permit your tears to flow at the ruins,
riding from there toward some hope,
Riding from that grief toward some hope,

مِن جَوابِ النُؤيِ وَالطَلَلِ
Distract yourself from what you seek
Distract yourself from what you are seeking—
of a reply from the encircling ditch and the ruins,
An answer from the trench-trace and the empty remains.

Turn to the Daughters of the Sun, who have not withheld
herself from a vulgar touch.
Themselves from the touch of a common hand;

She has no lineage in the cup
She has no lineage within the cup
save what she gathers from the flames.
Other than what she gathers from the flames.

The gatherer of her harvest moves
The one who harvests her takes her yield
slowly within the soul's abode.
Into the resting place of the soul, at leisure.

She takes the eyes as mirrors, because of
She admires her reflection in the eyes because
the trickling water that veils her.
Of the water that comes to overwhelm her.

Then, when the water couples with her,
And when the water falls upon her,
she displays a kind of flirtation:
She reveals a form of amorous play:

pearls descending through her,
Pearls that descend within her flow,
like tears falling in haste.
Like the rolling of tears in haste.

Then, when a man kisses her,
So when a man leans in to kiss her,
the pleasure of kisses intoxicates him.
The pleasure of the kisses intoxicates him.
