أَظهَرَhe showed بَعدَafter الوَصلِunion هِجراناestrangement
أَظهَرَ بَعدَ الوَصلِ هِجرانا
وَصَيَّرَand made العِلّاتِthe excuses أَعواناallies
وَصَيَّرَ العِلّاتِ أَعوانا
He showed estrangement after union,
After our union, he displayed estrangement,
And made excuses his allies.
And turned excuses into his allies.
يَعُدُّhe counts إِحسانيmy kindness ذُنوباًsins كَماjust as
يَعُدُّ إِحساني ذُنوباً كَما
أَعُدُّI count مِنهُfrom him الذَنبَthe sin غُفراناforgiveness
أَعُدُّ مِنهُ الذَنبَ غُفرانا
He counts my kindness as sins, just as
He reckons my acts of kindness as sins, just as
I count his sin as forgiveness.
I reckon his offenses as pardon.
ياO مُظهِراًone who shows فيin النَومِsleep هِجراناestrangement
يا مُظهِراً في النَومِ هِجرانا
حَسبُكَenough for you ماwhat تَفعَلُyou do يَقظاناawake
حَسبُكَ ما تَفعَلُ يَقظانا
O you who show estrangement in sleep,
O you who manifests abandonment even in sleep,
What you do while awake is enough!
What you do while awake is enough for you.
لَوif كُنتَyou were فيin حُبّيكَyour love ليfor me مُنصِفاًfair
لَو كُنتَ في حُبّيكَ لي مُنصِفاً
جازَيتَyou would repay بِالإِحسانِwith kindness إِحساناkindness
جازَيتَ بِالإِحسانِ إِحسانا
If you were fair in your love for me,
Had you been just to me in your love,
You would repay kindness with kindness.
You would have requited kindness with kindness.
