Ah, may my father be a ransom for him who came to visit me,
O my father, he who visited me
May my father be the ransom for the one who came visiting,
in the month of Dhu al-Hijjah, midway through it.
In the middle of the pilgrimage month of Dhul Hijjah
In the middle of the month of Dhu al-Hijjah,
باتَspent the night يُعاطينيoffering me عَلىupon خَدِّهِhis cheek
باتَ يُعاطيني عَلى خَدِّهِ
خَمراًwine بِعَينَيهِwith his two eyes وَمَنand from كَفِّهِhis palm
خَمراً بِعَينَيهِ وَمَن كَفِّهِ
All night he offered me, upon his cheek,
Spent the night offering me wine
He passed the night offering me, by the glow of his cheek,
wine with his eyes and from his palm.
From his eyes and palm
Wine from his eyes and wine from his hand,
وَكُنتُand I was فيماin what بَينَbetween ذاthis رُبَّماsometimes
وَكُنتُ فيما بَينَ ذا رُبَّما

أَدنَيتُ خِلخالَيهِ مِن شَنفِهِ
And amid all this I would sometimes
And I was, from time to time
And in the midst of that, I would perhaps
bring his two anklets close to his earring.
Bringing my anklets closer to his wrists
Bring his anklets close to his earring.
