وشادنٍ أهيفَ ذي غُنّةٍ

يقصرُ عنهُ النعتُ والوصفُ

And a slender-waisted young gazelle with a nasal tone,

With a voice of beautiful melody

And a slender fawn with a sweet, resonant voice,

Description and portrayal fall short of him;

That description and adjective fall short of

Whom description and epithets fail to capture,

حتى إذا صرتَ إلى حاضرٍ

حتى إذا صرتَ إلى حاضرٍ

منه إذا ليس له خَلفُ

منه إذا ليس له خَلفُ

Until, when you come face to face

When you are present before him

Until, when you come into his presence,

With him—behold, he has no backside.

He has no peer

From him, there is no turning back.
