وعاذلةٍand a reproachful woman تلومblames علىfor اصطفائيmy choosing
غلاماًa boy واضحاًradiant مثلlike المهاةِthe oryx doe
And a reproachful woman blames me for choosing
And a blamer blames me for my choice,
A scolding woman blames me for choosing
A radiant boy, like an oryx doe.
Of a handsome, brilliant lad like a blade unsheathed,
A radiant lad, fair as the wild oryx;
وقالتand she said قدindeed حُرِمتَyou have been deprived ولمand not توفّقgranted success

And she said, 'You have been deprived and not granted success
And she said “You are deprived and unsuccessful
She said, "You are deprived and have failed
In the sweet passion of union with beautiful women.'
In attaining the fragrance of union with singers.”
To find the sweet love of union with women."

So I said to her, 'You are ignorant; one like me does not
So I said to her “You are ignorant, I am not like
I answered her, "You are ignorant; for one like me
Deceive himself with nonsense.
Those who deceive themselves with nonsense.”
Does not delude himself with trifling lies.
أأختارُwould I choose? البحارَthe seas علىover البراريthe wilds
وحيتاناًand whales علىover ظبيthe gazelle of الفلاةِthe desert
Would I choose the seas over the wilds,
“Should I choose the seas over the land,
Shall I choose the seas over the dry lands,
And whales over the gazelle of the desert?
And sea monsters over gazelles of the plain?”
And whales over the gazelle of the wilderness?

Leave me be; do not blame me, for I remain
“Leave me be, do not blame me, for I
Leave me be, do not blame me, for I remain
Set on what you dislike until death.
Am heading towards what you hate until death.”
Devoted to what you detest until death.

This is what God's Book enjoined for us:
“This is what the Book of God enjoined upon us,
With this the Book of God has charged us,
To favor sons over daughters.'
To prefer sons over daughters.”
In preferring sons over daughters."
