ما مِثلُ هَذا اليَومِ في طيبِهِ

عُطِّلَ مِن لَهوٍ وَلا ضُيِّعا

No day as delightful as this

There is no day like this in its sheer delight,

Has been left without revelry or squandered.

To be left devoid of pleasure or allowed to go to waste.

فَما تَرى فيهِ وَماذا الَّذي

فَما تَرى فيهِ وَماذا الَّذي

تُحِبُّ في ذا اليَومِ أَن نَصنَعا

تُحِبُّ في ذا اليَومِ أَن نَصنَعا

هَل لَكَ أَن تَغدو عَلى قَهوَةٍ

هَل لَكَ أَن تَغدو عَلى قَهوَةٍ

تُسرِعُ في المَرءِ إِذا أَسرَعا

تُسرِعُ في المَرءِ إِذا أَسرَعا

Would you care to go in the morning for wine

Have you a mind to go early for a draught of wine,

That takes swift effect in a man when he makes haste?

That swiftly seizes a man if he makes haste?

ما وَجَدَ الناسُ وَلا جَرَّبوا

ما وَجَدَ الناسُ وَلا جَرَّبوا

لِلهَمِّ شَيئاً مِثلَها مَدفَعا

لِلهَمِّ شَيئاً مِثلَها مَدفَعا

People have neither found nor tried

For people have not found, nor have they ever tried,

Anything like it for driving sorrow away.

Anything to repel sorrow quite like it.
